About Karla Galva, Violinist
Hailed by the Chicago Sun-Times as a “deeply expressive violinist” Karla Galva joined Orchestra Iowa as Principal Second Violin and violinist in the Orchestra Iowa String Quartet in the fall of 2012. Karla is also an active freelance musician in her hometown of Chicago, IL. Most recently appearing on the PBS Chicago station WTTW with Green Bay Symphony Orchestra. As soloist, Karla has appeared with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Southwest Symphony Orchestra. She played in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago from 2002 to 2005 during which time she worked with many conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel, and Pinchas Zukerman. During this time Karla also became a substitute violinist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and was invited to play with the CSO for several concert series. 

As a lecturer at Chicago City Colleges, Karla designed and presented performance demonstrations for college students. She has also given numerous concerts for school-aged children with the Ducati Piano Trio sponsored by the International Music Foundation, including televised performances from the Chicago Cultural Center.

At the age of three Karla began her violin studies with Larisa Zhizhin at DePaul University. Before entering college Karla toured throughout Germany as jazz violinists in Mad Joy Theatrics, then entered the University of Maryland School of Music with a performing arts scholarship from which she graduated in 2001. Her teachers have included Daniel Heifetz, members of the Guarneri String Quartet, William Preucil, and Albert Igolnikov of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
